A life shaped
by music.

Kerry began singing in his local church choir as a young treble and became choirmaster at 16. During his teens, he sang with the Cleveland Youth Choir — now the Tees Valley Youth Choir — and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

As a tenor with the National Youth Choir, he recorded several albums, including Pearsall Madrigals. Following the choir’s 1996 world tour, he arranged and guest-conducted “Lullaby of Broadway” for its World Tour CD, recorded in the USA.

Kerry went on to study at London’s prestigious Trinity College of Music, with tenor as his first study and piano as his second, graduating with a BMus (Hons) in 2000. During twelve years of studying and working in London, he performed as a guest soloist and ensemble singer with choral societies and churches across the city.

His roles included tenor soloist in Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins for a London Pride event in Paddington, and tenor in a quartet performing Brahms’s waltzes in Deptford. After moving to Leeds in 2013, he sang with Leeds Cathedral Choirs for several BBC broadcasts.

During his twelve years working in London as a professional musician, Kerry was Choral Director of the Equity Union’s Choir. His work with the choir included conducting performances at the Royal Albert Hall and the Actors’ Church.

He also conducted Illuminati, a choir specialising in contemporary music by Miriam Mackie and other composers, and recorded the choir’s first CD in 2007.

Working with musical theatre groups and singers, Kerry was chorus master for the recordings It’s Me by Lindsey Hamilton and Dangerous Cabaret: Music and Lyrics by Brett Kahr. He was Musical Director for several Off-West End productions, including Anything Goes at the Landor Theatre, Cabaret, and an Italia Conti showcase at the Old Vic.

He also produced recordings for a number of new artists, including a charity CD for the Mothers’ Union and a recording of the new musical Solomon’s Songs.

In Leeds, Kerry was Musical Director of Leeds Beckett University Choir for staff and students until the pandemic. He then led school choirs at Morley Academy in South Leeds for six years.

Kerry has taught singers, pianists and performers in schools, colleges and one-to-one settings, from complete beginners to advanced students.

His teaching experience includes Guildford School of Acting, Italia Conti, Camden School for Girls, London Studio Centre, Bird College, Morley and Farnley Academies, and SLP College in Garforth. He has taught private students in Leeds city centre since 2015.
